Patricia McLain David peacefully passed from this world on November 27, 2018.  She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, two sons Michael Floyd and Steven Guy Blackmore, her two sisters Jean Scheiper and Norma Roberts Ward, niece Sheila Roberts Soto, husband Dick David, and stepchildren Christine and Richard David.  Patty was born on February 7, 1932 to Floyd and Nell McLain and lived on the McLain ranch five miles south of Lusk.

Patty experienced tragedies in her life, but nevertheless lived with an unbeatable positive attitude and acceptance of what life would send her way.  Patty vividly recalled the blizzard of 1949, just a year before her high school graduation from Lusk High School.

Patty moved to the Los Angeles area where she lived as the single parent of her two sons.  She worked for the Hyatt Hotels and other jobs to support the family.  Patty’s home was always open to others who needed a place to stay.

In the summer of 1967, Patty was visiting her family home when the oil heater exploded; the home was a total loss.  Later the replacement home also burned.

Patty reconnected with Dick David whom she had gone to school with in Lusk.  The two were married in 1977, and lived in Longmont and Broomfield.  They enjoyed an active life including dancing, skiing, and golf until Patty’s leg was injured when a stack of plywood fell on her.  Not deterred, Dick and Patty still enjoyed traveling by motorhome.

Patty owned and bred Portuguese water dogs.  One litter had 13 pups.  Her last dog, Jasper, will be buried with Patty.

Patty was a complex person; as strong as the buttes and plains of her beloved Wyoming ranch, yet vulnerable at times. She endured tremendous tragedy, but embraced love and laughter with a fervor that was admirable, a “yes” to life. A people-person in the truest sense of the phrase, Patty touched the lives of all who met her and knew each by their first name.  Each and every member of her family, her neighbors, and her friends were her “treasures”.

Patty is survived by her grandsons Jacob and David Blackmore, great-grandson Michael Blackmore, nieces and nephews: James Scheiper, Anita Schroeder, Teresa Roberts Mullin, Kevin Roberts, Barbara Roberts Greenwood, Marci Ward Ruberg, Nella Leonelli, Glenn Angel, Sherry Blackmore Coultas, step children Mary Jo Seufert, Theresa Cooley, Barbara Borrego, Lisa Ehlers, as well as their numerous children and grandchildren.

Burial will be in Lusk cemetery on May 18, 2019.
