Eleven teams visited Lusk and Niobrara County on Sunday, September 10 to play in the home kick-off jamboree tournament. The tournament began Sunday mid-morning and allowed for each team to play two games. Grades 3-4th and grades 5-6th had their own schedules and a total of roughly 300 kids participated in the games. “We had a great showing. We had close to 800 people at our high school field and everyone complimented the Town of Lusk and our high school facilities” says Recreation Director Shawn Leimser. Leimser recently moved from seasonal recreation director to year-round recreation director. Lusk had teams in both the 3-4th grade and 5-6th grade brackets where Leimser comments, “We had the smallest kids in the jamboree and we are very proud of them” adding, after the jamboree, the season looks rather hopeful, “We should be able to compete with every team we play and [I] am excited for the season”. Games will be primarily against Nebraska teams with some taking place on the home field. Leimser concludes that the jamboree will return next year as an annual tournament.
