Rainbows

I think that being an artist has always made me more aware of colors. I love color and enjoy wearing bright colors because they make me happy. I enjoy the beauty of the seasons and the colors God uses in our lives that are free to enjoy. I also love rainbows.

Last fall while I was on my way home from working at my store Whimsy in Lingle, I saw the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen. It was big and wide with brilliant colors and was the closest one I have ever seen. It looked close enough for me to drive through the field and be in it. And I wondered: if I drove closer, would I see the pot of gold at the end? And in my life, what would a pot of gold look like? What desire is there in my life that isn’t fulfilled?

As I began to think about what would please me the most, it all boiled down to my family. My greatest desire is that all my family would come to know Jesus as their Savior and want to live their life with Him as Lord of their life. There is no need for money to buy that, for God’s blessings are part of the life we receive as we serve Him, and they are freely given. There is guidance that He gives each one of us when we choose to follow Him, and He lights our path before us as we go through life.
We don’t need artificial lighting for that, we only need to read the Bible each day, pray for direction, and stay on the lighted path. There’s no charge for that either.

The wisdom God gives us to make good choices in life is also free, and He is there to help us in whatever we choose to do. He created each one of us to have a purpose in life and a desire to do a special type of work that would bring us satisfaction, and He gave us the ability to do it well. That was also freely given.

Thinking of all of those things made me realize that the life I am living is really the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. However, God also gave each of us Free Will, and each of us has to come to a point in our life where we choose whether we want Jesus in our life or if we want to live a worldly life and do it on our own. That is the decision we all have to make in our own heart and our own way. And I realize that all of my family has not yet come to that decision in their life. That would be my pot of gold; that I could see all of my family outlined in gold, and all secure in their faith in Jesus Christ, able to live through all the trials that life has to offer over the years with Jesus’ guidance and help.

Another blessing in that pot of gold is the wonderful fruits of the Spirit that
God gives us as we trust in Him. Galatians 5:22,23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, against such things there is no law.” Those fruits are also freely given, and there is nothing as wonderful as that peace the Holy Spirit gives to us.

While picturing that rainbow, and the family in that beautiful pot of gold, I realized that I have to be an active part of seeing the family in that golden glow. I need to encourage the family to trust in God, by sharing what He has done in our life and being a good example of a Godly woman. Not to preach, but to wait and pray for an opportunity to help them in some way to understand the love Jesus has for them.

And my job is to pray that God would touch their hearts and draw them to Him. I pray for someone or something to help them along the way and for God to guide their path. God uses many people and events to guide people to Him, and His timing is always perfect. He created them and knew what it would take to get their attention and turn their hearts toward Him. It sometimes takes time, but God will honor our prayers, for He “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1Tim 2:4). So, the next time you see a rainbow, consider who you desire to be with in that beautiful pot of gold, and remember to pray for them.
