In a frenzy to beat the coming storm, the Rawhide FFA Chapter left on Tuesday April 9th for state convention. While the events held at the University that following morning were cancelled due to weather were postponed until the 26th when the Meats Evaluation and Ag Mechanics team will head to Laramie. Chapter members participated in several CDE’s (Career Development Events) on Thursday. The morning started off at 7:30 am with livestock judging. Team members included Sadie Sturman, Clayton Williams, Peyton Kottwitz, and Kylie Strauch, they placed 4th as a team in beef selection and in the top 15 overall. Horse judging members of Abby Kottwitz, Peyton Kottwitz, Sadie Sturman, and Calli Klein competed later that evening and placed 12th overall. The Greenhand Quiz Bowl is an event for freshman only, in this contest they further their knowledge about FFA trivia. The freshman competing in this event were Aiden Applegarth, Harlee Blair, and Jaden Stauffer. Poultry judging team, members included: Pacen Gifford, Harlee Blair, Jaden Stauffer and Ryan Buegger. The final team that competed at state convention was the ENR, or Environmental and Natural Resources. Team members include Calli Klein, Peyton Kottwitz, Abby Kottwitz, and Allison Williams. FFA Advisor Jason Hubbard was nominated by the Wyoming FFA Association to receive his Honorary State degree. This award is given to recognize a select number of people who have made an important contribution to Wyoming FFA. For the first time, Rawhide FFA had 4 members who received their state degrees. A state degree is the highest level of recognition that a state can give, and is awarded to the top five percent of enrolled members in the state of Wyoming. State degree recipients include: Peyton Kottwitz, Kylie Strauch, Sadie Sturman, and Clayton Williams. Thank you to everyone that has supported the chapter over the years as we continue to grow.
