The last two weeks of May marked not only the beginning of the summer but also the beginning of Trap Shooting season. The Gun Club kicked the season off with the annual Americana decorated barbeque on May 21, which doubled as the first official night of trap shooting. This year, eleven teams have signed up to shoot the season which will last roughly ten weeks. Teams signed up to shoot Thursday nights, pick their trap house, and chose which time slot they’d like. Trap Shooting is the sport of shooting clay pigeons thrown from the trap house at five different locations and focuses on accurate shooting. Each pigeon shot is a score for a total possible of twenty-five per round. Two rounds are shot each night, the first beginning from the sixteen yard line and the second from the teams combined handicap, up to twenty-seven yards—the overall goal. All eleven teams, comprised of five people, will have the entire season to improve their shot thus improving their handicap against each other.
