Robert “Red” Lee was born July 7, 1928 in Burton, Nebraska, to Louis and Gladys (Wiley) Lee. He attended school in Lusk, Wyoming. Bob started his horse career at the early age of 16. He was a jockey for many years before becoming a trainer and owner. In 1948, Bob was united in marriage to Gertrude Carroll in Columbus, Nebraska. Bob was a trainer for Wood River Stables for several years before starting his own business. Bob and Gertrude traveled all over the country with race circuit. The eventually ended up moving to Silver Creek in the mid 1980’s. Red served as the President of the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Nebraska H.B.P.A. Hall of Fame and was named their Man of the Year in 1999. He was also inducted into the National H.B.P.A. Hall of Fame and his picture stands in Kentucky Horsepark. Red was known across the country for his contributions to the racing industry.

Robert is survived by: Wife: Gertrude Lee of Silver Creek, NE, Son-in-law: Monty Luark of Brush, CO, Granson: Michael Luark of Brush, CO, and four nieces.

Robert was preceded in death by: Parents: Louis & Gladys Lee of Lusk, WY,  Sons: Bobby and Monty Lee, Daughter: Lydia Luark and Grandsons Jerimy and Andrew Luark.
