The NCSD school board met Mon., March 12, at 7 pm, with all members present. 

WYVA: Jeff Verosky reported that enrollment is at 555 students: 232 elementary, 113 middle, and 210 high school. Verosky stated that there are 40 students on track for graduation and 2 others had graduated after first semester. WYVA staff are gearing up for testing with ACTs on the 20th and WTTOPP later in April. The WYVA office will be moving into temporary offices in the Ranger building March 30, due to mold issues with their current building. They are hoping to be set up in a new, permanent location by Sept. or Oct. of this year. 

LEMS: George Mirich reported that there are 123 students in the elementary grades and 67 in middle school. 26 students participated in the Enrichment Day last Fri. There will be no school on March 23, for Parent/Teacher conferences (8am-4pm), and will be student-led conferences. A student Cerebral Palsy presentation is planned for the 26-27 of March.

SPED: Robyn Heth reported that SPED is gearing up for testing as well. There are six students, as well as three more in residential settings. Heth stated that there may be a need to hire 1 or 2 SPED instructors. 

BOOK discussion: The Board is reading one chapter each week of “Good To Great” by James C. Collins. They discussed chapters 5 & 6, which concerned Three Circles…1) What are you passionate about?  2) What can you do the best in the world?  3)What drives your economic engine? They plan to take the knowledge gleaned from this book and apply it to our education system here in Niobrara County. 

Linda Conway was hired as full-time custodian, bringing the total up to four. Jessica Rapp has been hired from part-time to full time counselor at LEMS. Adele Cass will take on the additional position of girls track coach. Matt VandeBossche has submitted his resignation as activities director; he will continue with his teaching position. Michelle Carr has tendered her resignation, effective at the end of her contract. 

At the March 26 Board meeting, Sue Belish will be the guest speaker. She will be talking about Strategic Planning. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 7pm. The Board is still researching the possibilities of hiring a Curriculum Director -discussion was tabled. The Policy Committee will meet April 3 at 6 pm to discuss any policy changes that may be needed.

Aaron Carr reported that they are looking into applying for a Component Level Funding Grant to help pay for the Fire Alarm update project and upkeep on the roof. 

The next meeting is March 26 and is open to the public.
