Three weeks after the Niobrara County School District closed their physical classrooms for COVID-19 precautions, the food service director and staff approached the administration and asked if they could expand the program to provide hot lunches, not just sandwiches and cereal. After being given the go ahead the dietary staff dove in and expanded their program much to the delight of students. Staff are now preparing a hot meal to be reheated and a breakfast for every student that signs up for the program. What started with around 15 students is now serving over 40 hot meals a day. These meals are provided at no cost to the students and their families.
RIGHT: Director LaTrisha Molzahn and her staff Regina Kleinberg and LeeAnn Fullmer have been working hard to ensure that every student who needs food assistance is receiving it. They have also helped Lu Kaspers, LEMS Principal to ensure the backpacks distributed for a weekend via the backpack program continue to remain filled.
