LUSK – The Niobrara Senior Center is holding a silent auction through March 19 for a wooden windmill handcrafted by Stan Aamont, a Lusk resident and frequent senior center visitor.
The windmill, which is roughly two feet tall with a one-foot-wide base, is on display at the senior center for anyone wanting to take a look and place a bid.
Senior Center Activities Director Tammie Jensen said the proceeds go to the center, directly benefiting Niobrara County seniors.
“Stan has done quite a few of these,” she said. “There’s already been a lot of interest.”
In fact, the Legend of Rawhide board bid $1,000, and Jensen said there’s another Niobrara County resident who might look to outbid them.
The windmill is made from cedar and is held together by pins, Aamont said. He’s been woodworking for more than 20 years, and he’s made roughly 10 windmills he’s auctioned off.
The pump is patterned after one that was in front of a friend’s house, Aamont said.
“The windmill is just out of my head,” Aamont said.
Anyone interested in bidding can visit or call the senior center at 307-334-2561.
