On Wednesday, August 1, Lee Blake assumed her duties as Director of the Niobrara Senior Center. Outgoing Director Connie Baker introduced her to everyone present at the noon day meal. Blake grew up in Dubois and graduated from high school there before attending the University of Wyoming, where she received a Degree in Social Sciences. She was pleased to find employment here as she was already planning to move to this town, since her son and daughter -in-law and their children have been residents of Lusk for some time.
Most recently a resident of Lander, Director Blake has worked in similar positions involving all levels of ages from children to seniors, and understands the responsibilities of supervising staff, working with grants and is definitely a “people person.” She is an avid reader and her personal interests include gardening, attending farm auctions, thrift store shopper, crafts such as painting rocks, and t-shirt recycling into useable items.
Outgoing Director Connie Baker will assist the new Director as she begins her duties, becoming familiar with the facility, staff, and generally learning “where everything is.” Blake met with the Board of Directors on Thursday in a first step of getting to know those involved with the operation of the Center. On Friday, August 31, 2018, the public is invited to a reception for Connie Baker to be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.in the Niobrara Senior Center dining area in appreciation of her 37 years of dedication to the Center. The Niobrara Senior Center has grown under her guidance and now enjoys a reputation for its outstanding menus as well as being a very attractive place to gather for dining, social events and assistance with aging.
