September is National Preparedness Month for citizens.

To aid in preparing and informing all citizens, we want you to be aware of events that will be taking place in September 2018.

On September 11, 2018, the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, WOHS  launched a Wyoming Campaign, “Protect your every day. If you see something, say something.”   This program gives you the means to become involved and report suspicious activity in Wyoming.

To stop the next terrorist attack law enforcement must catch terrorists in the planning phase.  They cannot do this without your help.  The State of Wyoming has established a hotline (833) 446-4188.  If you see something,  say something.  You could be a key to stopping the next terrorist attack.

All citizens can report as well as emergency services.  This phone number is a central point of data collection meant to Protect Your Every Day.

You will see posters around our community advertising this number.

The phone number (833) 446-4188 can be called at any time to report your concerns and suspicions in Wyoming.

On September 20, 2018, at 12:20 pm, your cell phone may begin to act strangely.  Do not be alarmed.  FEMA is testing IPAWS, Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, and WEA Wireless Emergency Alert.

The test is to assess the operational readiness of the IPAWS infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine if technological improvements are needed.

The WEA test conducted in conjunction with radio, television, and cable operators in all U.S. states, territories, and tribal lands, the WEA test will take place in coordination with participating wireless providers. This test will be the first nationwide IPAWS WEA test.

Niobrara County, Wyoming citizens, may have gotten a WEA warning to their cell phone before and in the early morning hours of June 4, 2015.

During the flash flood which struck Niobrara County, Wyoming WEA signals where sent.  Unlike CodeRED which is a subscriber base information service.  WEA alerts were sent to all cell phone cellular service users in the affected area of the Niobrara County Flood.

It is essential that Niobrara County citizens continue to subscribe and update their contact information to CodeRED to get alerts!   The Niobrara County Sheriff’s Office remains proactive in keeping citizens informed.

It is unknown if future Sheriff’s Office administrations will continue this vital information sharing with the public.

A Niobrara County, Wyoming Countywide CodeRED Alert Test will also take place on September 20, 2018, at 3 pm.  A countywide test call will start at 3 pm.   This test will benchmark calls performed in alerting subscribers to the Niobrara County, Wyoming  CodeRED service.  The result published later will be posted on the Niobrara County Sheriff’s Office website.

Also to the above information, we want to make parents and guardians of children in Wyoming schools informed about the Wyoming Safe Two Tell program. http://safe2tellwy.org
