Spring season golf competes in three tourneys in four days

The High School Golf Team continued their spring season with three tournaments in four days.  Friday the team traveled to Sundance for a Varsity Tournament and to Upton for a Junior Varsity Tournament.  The team has several new faces this spring so it was good to get all of them some tournament experience.  All of the girls were playing in the first tournament of their careers.  Makayla Waldock shot 129, Lucy Ceaglske shot 144 and Ashley Christianson shat 145 which gave Lusk a team score of 418.  Tongue River won the tournament with a score of 320.  The boys team was led by Eli Wagner who came in with a round of 92 which earned him the Fifth Place Individual Medal.  Cole Hart shot 100, Micah Shaner shot 104, Garett Dixon shot 120 and Tanner Carpenter rounded out the varsity scores with a round of 140.  The Boys Team finished in fourth place with a team score of 416.  Wright won the tournament with a Team Score of 369.

Saturday the Tiger Golf Team competed at the Upton Invitational.  The Girls Team finished with a team score of 407 to place third.  Tongue River once again came out on top with a team score of 300.  Ashley Christianson had the low score for our girls coming in with a round of 132.  She was closely followed by Lucy Ceaglske with a round of 137 and Makayla Waldock with a score of 138.  The Boys Team finished in third place with a team score of 401.  Sundance/Hulett won the tournament with a team score of 368.  Tongue River was second with a score of 374.  Eli Wagner played really solid on the back nine coming in with a 43 to finish with a round of 93 which was one stroke out of the top five medals.  Cole Hart also had a solid back nine shooting 44 to finish with a score of 93 as well.  Micah Shaner continues to build on his experience from the Fall and he finished with a round of 100.  Garett Dixon also continues to show improvement and he finished with a score of 115.  Tanner Carpenter improved on his score from the day before shooting 121.  Ryan Gilkey shot 117 in his first experience of competing over 18 holes in stroke play.  Bryce Matthews also shot 117, Caleb Kremers shot 128 and Ben Eiden finished with a round of 134.

Monday the team played at the Devil’s Tower Invitational at Hulett.  This tournament allowed the team to play against some different competition as several strong teams from South Dakota were also there.  The course which is one of the top courses in the region was in really good condition and it definitely helped the players to work on their games because the course is fairly tight and rewards good shots and penalizes poor shots.  Makayla Waldock had the opportunity to play with some of the top players in the area so it was a great experience for her.  She continues to show improvement and she came in with a score of 131.  Eli Wagner once again let the way for the boys team shooting 94 to finish in 9th place in the individual tournament.  Cole Hart once again played solid coming in with a score of 101.  Micah Shaner shot 109, Garett Dixon shot 126 and Tanner Carpenter shot 130 to round out the varsity scores.  The team finished with a score of 430.  Sundance/Hulett won the tournament with a team score of 348.  Ryan Gilkey continues to improve finishing with a round of 113.  Caleb Kremers also continues to gain valuable experience as he has played in every tournament so far this spring.
