Fullmer’s first year at the helm ended with a 7-18 record, but he recounted many smaller, but significant victories during the season. When one of the freshmen left his shoes at home, a pair of seniors wandered around Guernsey’s high school until they found a pair to use for the game. Only three times did a player check off the bus this season (and all three for legitimate travel reasons). After 14 years as a coach, this was the toughest locker room to end a season with, he told the crowd. Small steps must be taken before big ones are achieved, in a rebuilding project Fullmer and Hubbard are dedicated to.
Seniors Teagan Tschacher and Alec Penfield each earned their third letter, while junior James Stone also picked up his third. Juniors Wyatt Stauffer and Tanner Carpenter and sophomore Ryan Bruegger all earned their second varsity letter. First-time lettermen include seniors Jayden Matthews, Jacob Miller and Declan Jensen, juniors Ben Eiden and Damien Molzahn and soph Aric Eaton.
Iron Man Awards went to Matthews and Bruegger, while Matthews also won the Free Throw Ladder Award and Most Improved Player. Penfield was selected as the Outstanding Teammate and Tschacher was given Fullmer’s Heart and Soul Award. Bruegger was the only Tiger named to the 2A SE All Conference team, as he led NCHS with 10.6 ppg and 6.6 rpg; and led all of 2A with 2.9 bpg.
Hubbard’s JV (12-9) letter winners were freshmen Mason Wells and Walker Kupke. Eaton was named Most Improved Player and Kupke was named Most Coachable Player. Molzahn was selected as Best All-Around Athlete, and for the second year- Carpenter exemplified Tiger Pride.
