NCHS equaled and surpassed last year’s total with a pair of wins at the eleventh Tiger Jamboree last weekend. Friday morning the Tigers faced a good Thunder Basin group of sophomores, and everyone struggled to make shots. After one period Lusk led 10-9 and halftime was just 21-17 in favor of the Tigers. Both teams used the break to make adjustments as the offenses came alive. The Bolts got within 34-31 before an old fashioned three point play by Ryan Gilkey pushed it to six points. TB cut it to 41-39 to close the third, but the Tigers kept on scoring behind eight from Gilkey and six each from Jake Heil and Teagan Tschacher as NCHS won 65-50.

Miller had a big third with eight points and Gilkey’s trey gave Lusk the 32-29 lead. NCHS then ended the period on a 6-2 run before holding off the Bison comeback attempt. The 50-45 win was Lusk’s third of the young season, with a rematch against Greybull looming Saturday.

Last week in Wright the Tigers trailed Greybull by 17 entering the fourth quarter before falling by six points. This time Lusk matched the Buffalos energy and were down 20-17 in a fast paced eight minutes. The scoring ground down in what became a defensive battle with the Buffs ahead by one at halftime. Hart’s triple tied the game at 29 but an 8-3 run gave Greybull the five point edge. The Tigers came back in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 44, made a defensive stop and sent the game into overtime. The visitors scored two early baskets and from there Lusk was unable to stop the clock in the 48-46 loss.
