Tiger Golfers continue to have success

Posted

LUSK- The Tigers traveled to Newcastle on Friday and Upton on Saturday to take part in the Weston County Invitational Golf Tournaments.  The girls team won their 3rd and 4th tournaments in a row with more solid play from all three girls.  On Friday, Makena Engelker shot a 109, good for 2nd place and only one stroke off the 108 winning score.  Mackenzie Lyons was just one stroke behind Makena with a 110, good for 3rd place and Joz Potter shot a 120, good for 7th place.   Their team total of 339 outdistanced the second place Wright team who shot 361.  On Saturday their team score of 336 was good for first place again compared to Tongue River shooting a 355 for second place.  Mackenzie Lyons was the low scorer on Saturday with a 2nd place round of 107 and Makena Engelker came in 4th with a 112.  Joz Potter continues to hit more solid shots and finished 7th with a 117.

For the boys, Micah Shaner continues to finish in the top five in each tournament with a 4th place finish on Friday shooting an 87.  That was just a stroke off tying for 2nd and 3rd place.  Winning the tournament was Hardy Johnson, a freshman from Thermopolis shooting a one under par 71.  On Saturday Micah finished 4th again with an 86.  Ben Eiden made a big step shooting a career best 95 on Friday to give him his first top ten finish.  On Saturday he shot under a 100 again with a 98.  This should be the start of nice scores for Ben.  Jaden Matthews shot what we thought was a solid 127 on Friday since he had just started golfing 3 weeks ago.  Then on Saturday he shot a blistering 43 on the front nine holes and came in with a 55 on the back side for a 98 total.  Almost unheard of for a beginning golfer.  Hopefully he will be ready to back it up this week.  Dalton Larson continues to make his swing look better and better and should start bringing his scores down steadily in the next three weeks.  On Friday he shot 146 but on Saturday he brought that down to 135.  Keep up the hard work Dalton.

This week the Tigers travel to the Golf Club at Devil’s Tower on Tuesday and go to Wright on Friday.
