Two Lady Tigers competed on Tuesday in the prestigious Track Classic in Casper.  The field includes the top athletes in each event from the state of Wyoming, regardless of classification.

Taylor Gaukel highlighted the Tiger performances as she placed 3rd in triple jump going a career best 33’ 8.75”.  It was her first trip to the Classic, although she looks forward to future ones.

Teammate Miranda Gilkey also competed in triple jump placing 6th jumping 33’ 4.25”.  Gilkey also competed in high jump where she placed 8th with a jump of 4’ 10”.

The rest of the Tiger track teams competed at the Wheatland Invite on Tuesday.

The Lady Tiger throwers continue to put up some points for head coach Sandra Johnson.  Marie Hendrickson has been on a terror as of late.  She won the discus throwing 102’ 4” and placed 4th in the shot put at 31’ 9”.

Teammate Mackenzie Lyons continued her streak of placings as she threw 31’ 7” in the shot put to bring home 5th place.  Reygan Molzahn had a career day setting new personal bests in both throwing events.  She placed 6th in discus throwing 90’ 8” and also threw 28’ 8.5” in shot put.

Prior to leaving for Casper, Miranda Gilkey competed in the high jump clearing 5’ to win the high jump.

Tillie Schmidt had another good day as she placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles, 7th in the 100 meter dash, and 4th in the high jump going 4’ 8”.

Miranda Mosley rounded out the individual placers by going 7’ 9” in pole vault to place 8th.

The girls’ 4 X 800 relay continues to perform well as they finished 6th overall.  Team members include Schmidt, Mosley, Taylor Gaukel, and Jalyn McDaniel.

As a team, the girls scored 50.5 points to place 6th.

On the boys’ side, Traylin Bruegger led the scoring for the Tigers as he won the 300 hurdles in 43.14 and prequalified in the 110 hurdles in a career best 16.58.

Coming back from injury, Riley Ross performed well clearing 11’ 9” to win the pole vault.

Alec Penfield cleared 6’ in the high jump to win silver.  It was his first time over 6’ this season.

Jake Heil continued to perform well in shot put and discus.  He placed 4th in the shot put throwing 41’ 11” and then threw 111’ 9” in the discus to place 5th.

The 4 X 800 relay team of William Fish, Jacob Muir, Teagan Tschacher, and Pacen Gifford ran a season’s best 9:47 to place 6th.

The 4 X 100 relay team of Kade Clark, Zach Vandeberg, Kaden Gaukel, and Damien Molzahn ran 52.11 to place 8th.

The boys scored 47 points to place 6th as a team.

On Saturday, the Tigers travelled to scenic Pine Bluffs to compete in the SEWAC track meet.  The Lady Tigers scored 94 points to place third as a team while the boys scored 44 to place 6th.  Overall, there were a lot of personal bests as the weather finally played into the athletes’ favor.

The ladies were led by Miranda Gilkey, who earned 3 All Conference gold medals.  She ran her best 300 hurdle time of the year (48.83), triple jumped 34’ 7.75”, and high jumped 5’.  All three times and distances rank her at the top or towards the top of the 2A East Regional and State lists.  Her efforts earned her Track Athlete of the Week.

Taylor Gaukel also earned an All Conference gold medal in the 100 hurdles.  She outleaned two other racers to win 1st.  Taylor also earned silver in the triple jump going 33’ 1” and bronze in the 300 hurdles running a time of 51.56.

Tillie Schmidt placed 2nd in the high jump, 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles, and 4th in the 100 meter dash.  She continues to make strides in her first year of track competition.

The shot put throwers had an excellent day as all 6 boy and girl throwers had their best career throws.  For the girls, Marie Hendrickson and Mackenzie Lyons have been waiting for their day to prequalify for the State Meet.  It came at SEWAC as Hendrickson threw 33’ 8” to place 4th while teammate Mackenzie Lyons threw 33’ 6” to place 5th.  Hendrickson also continues to throw the discus well as she earned silver throwing 101’ 8”.

The girls 4 X 400 relay of Gaukel, Schmidt, Gilkey, and Miranda Mosley ran very well placing 2nd in a time of 4:31.87, just barely off of the prequalifying mark.

Jalyn McDaniel would round out the scoring for the girls placing 6th in pole vault with a vault of 7’ 9”.

For the boys, the headliner was once again Traylin Bruegger.  Bruegger was the winner in the 300 hurdles in a career best time of 41.41 and was the recipient of an untimely fall over the last hurdle by his rival.  He also ran the 110 hurdles in 17.11 to place 3rd and placed 6th in the 200 in a time of 24.93.

Alec Penfield was the boys only other All Conference winner as he cleared 6’ 2” to beat Wyoming basketball recruit Hunter Thompson in the high jump.  6’ 2” is Penfield’s all-time best.  His efforts earned him Track Athlete of the Week.

Riley Ross continues to improve coming off an injury in the pole vault as he cleared a season’s best 11’ 11” to earn bronze.

Jake Heil prequalified for state in the shot put going 44’ 9” to improve his all-time best mark in the event by over 2 feet.  Heil also improved his season’s best mark in discus by 6 feet.  Coach Ron Nelson was extremely excited to qualify 3 throwers at the meet.

Teagan Tschacher continues to improve in his 800 meter times as he ran 2:19 to place 5th while teammate William Fish also continues to make big strides in the 3200, where he placed 3rd in the event.  Coach Chris Skeen hopes that this improvement continues as we approach the Regional meet.

The 4 X 100 relay of Kade Clark, Zach Vandeberg, Kaden Gaukel, and Damien Molzahn ran a season’s best 51.42 to place 5th.

The 4 X 400 team of Bruegger, Tschacher, Wyatt Stauffer, and Pacen Gifford placed 6th in a time of 4:07.92.

The Tigers head to Gillette to compete in the 2A East Regional Track Meet on Friday and Saturday.
