Tigers compete well against the big dogs and nature

Posted

After not competing in a track meet last week due to Mother Nature, the Tigers narrowly escaped missing another meet this week after the Wheatland Invite was cancelled on Saturday.  The tracksters made their way to Casper Kelly Walsh on Saturday to compete in the Trojan Invite with primarily 3A and 4A teams.

Several Lady Tigers continued their streak of excellence as the 4 X 100 relay team of Miranda Gilkey, Taylor Gaukel, Courtney Rowley, and Anna Richardson ran a time of 53.88 to place 4th overall.  This time also prequalified this relay for state.

Taylor Gaukel had a very nice day as she brought home three other medals, including a bronze in the 300 hurdle race where she prequalified in a time of 50.80.   She also brought home bronze in the long jump going a personal best 15’ 4.75” and 6th in the 100 hurdles in a time of 18.00.  Her long jump mark barely missed the prequalifying mark of 15’ 5”.

Miranda Gilkey continued her dominance in the high jump going 5’ 2” for the third meet in a row to win the event over several 4A competitors.  Gilkey also placed 4th in the long jump just behind teammate Gaukel.

The girls’ team scored 35 points to place 6th behind the other 4A schools.

For the boys, Jake Heil came out strong in his first meet of the year placing in both throwing events for the Tigers.  Heil through a personal best 120’ 10” in the discus to place 6th overall, and also placed 6th in the shot put going just over 43’.

Alec Penfield continued his streak in the high jump going 6’ to place a controversial 3rd place behind two 4A competitors.

Senior Traylin Bruegger came up just short of his goal of prequalifying in the 300 hurdle race by .05 seconds.  He placed 3rd in the event in a time of 43.03 and also got 8th in the 110 hurdles.

The final scoring for the Tigers was the sprint medley relay team of Bruegger, Penfield, Teagan Tschacher, and Wyatt Stauffer, where they placed 4th in a time of 4:08.

The boys’ team scored 24 team points to place 9th.

The tigers compete this week at the Burns Invite.
