Tigers win at Moorcroft to snap skid

Posted

January was a cold, hard month for the Tiger boys to endure a seven game losing streak, but February welcomed a weekend split with Lingle-Ft Laramie and Moorcroft.

Friday night at Tiger Gym the visitors took a 13-7 first period lead, as the Tigers committed five turnovers. Jayden Matthews buried his second trey of the game just before halftime and NCHS got back within 25-22 at the half.

Teagan Tschacher sank a three pointer and Ryan Bruegger found some room in the paint for scores to keep NCHS close. As the game entered the fourth quarter, the Tigers trailed by two but just couldn’t keep up with another team to shoot the lights out from beyond the stripe. L-FL made half of their 12 three point tries and outlasted Lusk 54-47.

No matter if the groundhog saw his shadow on Saturday, it’s pretty doubtful he would have projected NCHS to put up 74 points at Moorcroft. The Wolves have had a rougher season than the Tigers with just two wins so far and team attrition, but Lusk’s shooting struggles are well documented. It took a bit of time to figure each other out as NCHS got off to a 15-13 first period edge. Bruegger took over in the second with 13 of his career high 23 points as the Tigers went on a 27-9 second quarter blitz.

Coming out of the locker room, the Tigers cooled a bit but had doubled Moorcroft 53-26 on the scoreboard. A pair of Matthews treys helped cement the win in the fourth period of smiles and relief in the 74-41 final score.
