Thirteen games in total have been logged for this years’ Lusk Recreation traveling basketball team under the direction of Lusk Recreation Director Shawn Leimser and as of March 25, with the conclusion of the final tournament, the season is officially in the books. March 23-25 was the Chadron State College traveling basketball tournament and ten kids from the traveling basketball team participated, “The team did very well, we lost a few close games to much bigger towns, so I was excited for our kids” states Director and Coach Leimser. In addition to Leimser, Nolan Brott, Amy Swisher, and Ely Asche coached the traveling team wherein the Lusk Tigers competed against teams that have played upwards of fifty games in their own seasons, an advantage over the Tigers but far from a deterrent. Throughout the season, the Tigers played against teams from Rapid City, Gillette, Wheatland, and Alliance among others. What Leimser saw in the first-year team made him hopeful for the years to come, where Leimser explains the best part of this season was, “Watching the kids get better every week and becoming a group”, Leimser added, “Hopefully next season we will get more kids involved and do a few more games with towns closer to our size”.
