The Upton Invite provided the Tiger Track teams a great opportunity to put up some great performances on Saturday.

The boys scored a season’s best 113.5 points while the girls racked up a season’s best 126 points.

The boys had several gold medal performances including Alec Penfield in the high jump going 5’ 11”, which prequalified him for the state track meet. It was his first meet coming off of an ankle injury.

Jake Heil had an outstanding day as he threw 42’ 8” to win the shot put.  Heil also placed 8th in the discus.

Another gold medal winner was William Fish in the 3200.  Fish ran the 8 lap race in 12:22.60.  Fish also placed in the 800 and cleared a career best 8’ 6” in the pole vault.

Traylin Bruegger rounded out the gold medal winners by running 43.33 in the 300 hurdles to place first, while also bringing home bronze in the 110 hurdles in a time of 18.44. 

Jacob Muir placed in all three of his events clearing a career best 10’ in pole vault to place 3rd, ran 12:28.16 to place 3rd in the 3200, and also placed in the 800.

Sophomore Teagan Tschacher had one of his best track days as he cleared 5’ 5” in the high jump to place 5th and ran 2:20 in the 800 to take home bronze. 

Freshman Wyatt Stauffer continues to add to his season point total as he placed in all four events.  He earned 5th in the 300 hurdles, 6th in the 110 hurdles, 6th in the triple jump, and 8th in the high jump.

Tim Ross broke into the 100’ club in the discus going 112’ 2” to place 5th in the event, while teammate Damien Molzahn threw a career best 36’ 5” in shot to place 8th.  Both throwers’ efforts earned them Co-Athletes of the Week.

Freshman Ben Courier brought home 7th in the 400 in a time of 68.81 while James Stone triple jumped 35’ 6” to place 5th.  Tyler Basile also placed 5th in the 1600.

The 4 X 400 relay team of Bruegger, Stone, Tschacher, and Pacen Gifford ran a time of 4:05.49 to win silver while the 4 X 100 team of Molzahn, Stone, Kade Clark, and Kaden Gaukel placed 3rd in a time of 53.57. 

The girls also had several gold medal winners as Miranda Gilkey won the high jump jumping a season’s best 5’ 1” and the triple jump going 34’ 8”.  She also placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles in a time of 50.75 and 4th in the long jump at 14’ 8”.

Jalyn McDaniel cleared 7’ 9” in the pole vault and won a vault off to place 1st and also placed 6th in the 800. 

The 4 X 800 relay team of Julianne Graham, Taylor Gaukel, Miranda Mosley, and McDaniel won the tightly contested one team race in a time of 12:47.78.

Marie Hendrickson continued her improve her distances in the throwing events.  Hendrickson threw 102’ 3” to take 2nd in the discus and 32’ 4” to place 3rd in the shot put.  Both marks were career bests for her.

Taylor Gaukel had a great day as she won silver in the triple jump going a career best 33’ 5.5”.  She also placed 4th in both the 300 hurdles (52.58) and 100 hurdles (17.60).

Newcomer Tillie Schmidt placed in all four of her events including being prequalified for the state track meet going 4’ 10” in the high jump to place 2nd.  She also ran 17.41 to earn bronze in the 100 hurdles, 4th in the 800 in a time of 3:04.55, and 6th in the long jump going 14’ .25”. 

Mackenzie Lyons placed 6th in the shot put throwing 31’ 2.5” and 8th in the discus with a throw of 87’ 10”.  Reygan Molzahn also made finals in the shot put with a throw of 28’ 1”.  Lyons has placed in 5 of her last 6 events in the last 3 track meets while Molzahn has made finals in the last two.  For their efforts, they both have earned Athlete of the Week.

Julianne Graham grabbed a bronze medal in the 3200 in a time of 14:41.06 while Esmeralda Caldera placed 3rd in the 200 in a time of 32.81.  

The Tigers are in action on Saturday as they host the Dennis Zowada Invite on Saturday at Niobrara County High School.  We hope to see everyone there.
