Wanda Mae Schmidt, 75, passed away Sunday morning, April 15, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas at the Heritage Convalescent Center where she resided.  Graveside services will be held in Lusk, Wyoming, at the Lusk Cemetery Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Wanda was born in Springview, Nebraska on May 29, 1942 to Guy Charles Brewer and Dorothy Lorraine Packard.  She met and married the love of her life, Donald Eugene Schmidt May 28, 1960.  Together they had three children:  Joseph Charles, Donald “Gene”, and Carmen Lorraine.

Her heart lead her to follow her passion, and in 1974 she graduated from a nursing college in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with her LVN degree.  They then moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1975. Upon arriving Wanda took a job at St. Anthony’s where she worked for many years as an LVN and pediatric nurse.  After many years of working for the hospital and doctor’s offices, she transitioned into home health care, taking care of sick and disabled children.  She loved nursing, and even after retiring and being placed at the Heritage Convalescent center, her caring genes drove her to become President of the Resident Council, helping plan and coordinate activities for her peers within the nursing home.  She love being an ambassador for the other senior citizens.

Wanda loved helping everyone, taking care of people, doing her crosswords, watching Wheel of Fortune, wrestling, and her family and friends.

She is survived by son Joseph Schmidt, daughter Carmen Nichols, and sister Phyllis Carlson of Potter, Nebraska; and her grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her younger brother Keith Eldon Brewer.
