CASPER - After missing out on two track meets thus far this season, the Tiger track teams finally had a nice day to compete in Casper at the Trojan Invite last Friday. This meet showcased many of the top 3A and 4A teams in Wyoming, so the Tigers were up against some stiff competition. Three individuals prequalified for the state track meet while several others were just shy of those marks.

The top placer for the Tigers was senior Alec Penfield in the high jump. In his first meet of the season, Penfield cleared 6’ 4” and barely missed 6’ 6” to take the silver medal against a future University of Wyoming athlete from Casper Natrona. This mark prequalifies him.

Sophomore Jasper Caldera had a career day in both throwing events. Caldera threw 45’ in the shot put to place him 6th against 4A competition. His throw prequalifies him for the State Meet in May. Caldera also threw a career best 120’ in the discus, finishing just outside of the medals.

The third prequalifier for the Tigers was Courtney Rowley in pole vault. She cleared 8’ and placed 9th overall.

The 300 meter hurdlers had a nice day where freshman Dylan Molzahn placed 7th in a time of 43.55. Molzahn also threw just shy of 39’ in the shot put.

Wyatt Stauffer placed 8th in 300 hurdles in a time of 43.89. Stauffer had a banner day where he set career bests not only in the hurdles, but also the high jump and triple jump.

Aric Eaton also had a nice day running career bests in both the 200 meter dash and 300 hurdles.

For the girls, Riley Shaw had a career day running the 100 meter dash in 13.71 and high jumping 4’ 6”.

The 4 X 100 relay team of Rowley, Shaw, Taylor Gaukel, and Anna Richardson ran 55.37, but were outside of the medals.

Gaukel barely missed finals in both the 100 hurdles and triple jump.

Thrower Mackenzie Lyons was also just outside of the finals in both events throwing almost 100’ in the discus and 31’ 8.5” in shot.

Esmeralda Caldera was right behind Lyons in the discus throwing a career best 95’.

Renae Marker and Jaden Stauffer also had career best days in the sprints and jumps.

Weather permitting, the Tigers have a busy week competing in Glenrock on Friday and Alliance, NE on Saturday.
