LUSK- It is a privilege to share with you that Clayton and Allison Williams have been selected to perform with the Wyoming All State Marching Band during the summer and fall of 2018!! Last fall, Anita Troudt and Scott Ramsey encouraged Clayton and Allison to apply and after some discussion they followed through. There was a 2 month waiting period as students from all over Wyoming were also submitting applications. Once these applications are reviewed, the director reaches out to references (past instructors in this case). The students that are selected must be highly recommended as to their musical ability, self-discipline and overall behavior as a leader. It was an honor to receive the email that they had been selected! They will be training with 250-300 students at Northwest Community College in Powell June 30th through July 2nd. They will then perform in the Cody Stampede Parade July 3rd and 4th. During July they will be marching in parades in Sheridan, Rock Springs and in the Cheyenne Frontier Days parade. The most exciting culminating trip will take place over Thanksgiving where they will travel to Philadelphia and march in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their travels will also include opportunities to visit New York and surrounding areas, among other festivities. The trip and itinerary is organized through Educational Discovery Tours.
The Wyoming High School All State Marching Band was first formed during the summer of 1990 by Mr. Dave Bellis and his wife Dawn, to help celebrate the Wyoming State Centennial. That summer, they performed around the state of Wyoming for cheering crowds. On January 1, 1991 they performed in their first “Tournament of Roses Parade”. The band numbered 180 musicians.
With the success of the first band, people around the state began talking about re-assembling the band to perform again. During the summer of 1994, the band was put back together with another whole new group of students. Many of these students were younger brothers and sisters of members from the first band. Once again, during the summer months they performed all around the state. In November of 1994, the band performed in the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade”. This band numbered 185 students.
The next Wyoming All-State Marching Band will be assembled beginning in June of 2018. The Wyoming All-State Marching Band has a unique history in the state of Wyoming. The band has been assembled 13 times including:
1991 Tournament of Roses Parade
1994 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
1998 St. Patrick’s Day Parade (Dublin, Ireland)
2000 Tournament of Roses Parade
2001 United States Presidential Inaugural Parade
2004 Tournament of Roses Parade
2005 United States Presidential Inaugural Parade
2006 Edinburgh Scotland – Cavalcade of Bands Parade
2008 Waikiki Holiday Parade
2011 Tournament of Roses Parade
2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
2014 Hawaii Kai Holiday Parade
2016 Tournament of Roses Parade
2018 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade
The WASMB has a strong resume of performances in many parades around the country and usually get accepted to most parades. They typically travel with 250-300 students and have performed with as many as 540 students. Clayton and Allison have their work cut out for them, but look forward to this opportunity that they will remember for a lifetime! The WASMB is under the direction of Mr. Dan Holroyd in Cheyenne. He personally stated that he was excited to recognize students from Lusk in his program this year!
