GLENROCK – Friday morning the Niobrara County High School wrestling team faced off against the Casper Natrona JV.

Jasper Caldera and Gabe Matthews both had first period pins, but Miles Ashurst and David West were both pinned. Colton Coffman lost a 7-6 decision and Sean Johnson fell by a 9-5 score. Seven open weights were the difference for the Mustangs as they won 63-12.

Shoshoni was next on the docket, and Caldera, West and Coffman had first period pins. Matthews won by pin fall in the third, and Ashurst received a forfeit. Johnson was pinned in the second period, and the Wranglers took forfeit wins in six weights and won 42-30.

To wrap up the day, the Tigers faced the home squad. Caldera, Matthews, Coffman and West all pinned their guy, while Johnson and Ashurst were defeated. Four forfeits were enough for the Herders to prevail 36-24.

At Saturday’s BattleCat tournament in Wright, the Tigers faced the home team first.

Caldera, Matthews and Coffman all won their matches but Ashurst, West and Johnson went down to their opponents. Six open weight classes and the Panthers won 54-15.

Tongue River’s fledgling program continues to improve, and they defeated NCHS 42-20.

Caldera and Matthews continued their winning ways with pins, while West won an 11-1 decision and Coffman won a 13-2 decision. Ashurst and Johnson were pinned, and the Eagles had forfeits in five classes.

Facing Thermopolis, Coffman won by pin fall and Matthews earned a forfeit. Caldera, West, Johnson and Ashurst were defeated and the four open weights helped the Bobcats to a 48-12 win.

This week the Tigers travel to Hulett on Friday and Southeast on Saturday.
