LUSK- Gov. Matt Mead and the Wyoming Veterans Commission are pleased to announce celebrations for the Wyoming Veterans Welcome Home Day, March 30.
The day of welcoming, March 30 of each year, was codified in state law during the 61st Legislative session and represents the date U.S. combat
troops would have set foot on Wyoming soil after returning home from the Vietnam War in 1973.
All Wyoming veterans, especially those from the Korean War and Vietnam War who were not properly thanked upon their return home, are invited to attend and receive their welcome home and thanks from a grateful state.
Military, surviving spouses of veterans, and family members are also welcome to attend. The stops on the tour vary each year.
This year’s ceremony times and locations are:
8 a.m. Newcastle - Newcastle High School, 116 Casper Ave.
11 a.m. Hulett - Greater Hulett Community Center, 401 Sager St.
2 p.m. Lusk - Elks Lodge #1797, 602 S. Elm St.
The ceremonies will feature remarks by Gov. Matt Mead, Wyoming Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Luke Reiner, Wyoming Veterans Commission Chairman Keith Davidson, and Lee Alley, a Distinguished Service Cross recipient of the Vietnam War. Veterans and local officials will also be speaking.
Wyoming veterans who served and sacrificed will be thanked for their efforts and welcomed home. “It is never too late to do the right thing” is this year’s theme.
Wyoming communities are encouraged to host their own celebrations to honor Wyoming veterans who may not have been thanked for their service or welcomed home.
