Safe Kids’ Day 2018 was held May 18 at the Lusk Elementary-Middle School. Beginning at ten o’clock in the morning, students were ushered around a gym full of vendors for a chance to visit with different associations from around town. Vendors included the hospital, Lusk Volunteer Fire Department, Lusk Police Department, and many others. The gym itself was decorated with balloons and streamers for the occasion and was packed with both those attending school and some that brought younger kids to participate in the event. “This is great. [The] kids are getting to see lots of good stuff. Hopefully they take enough from it to make some good choices” said Lusk Elementary-Middle School Principal—and soon to be NCHS Superintendent—George Mirich. Once the students had a chance to visit the vendors inside and score their goody bags, they were then taken outside where a Wyoming Air Methods life flight helicopter had landed in the grass with the flight crew giving a presentation and allowing the students to climb through the chopper.
