NIOBRARA COUNTY – Man’s best friend will be able to show off his discipline and exemplary behavior on February 7 during a six-week course dubbed “Canine Good Citizen Training and Certification.”
Local resident Michelle Kremers, had wanted to have a training program to help train her miniature poodles. After speaking with Killie Chichester, University Extension Educator 4-H/Youth Development, it was suggested that Kremers contact instructor Cathy McAtee.
McAtee has been training dogs and owners for quite some time. McAtee will be helping owners to achieve improved obedience and communication, enhanced socialization, potential insurance discounts, and foundation for advanced training.
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certification is a prestigious award recognizing dogs that demonstrate excellent manners and behavior in everyday situations. Administered by the American Kennel Club (AKC), CGC promotes responsible pet ownership and well-behaved dogs.
CGC will be held on February 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Shooting Sports Building. The cost is $60 for non-4-H members and $30 for 4-H members. There is limited space available. McAtee will only be accepting 10 slots for dogs and owners. For more information, call (307) 334-3534.
