LUSK - Strains of Gordon Lightfoot and other country classics from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s along with animated conversation were the soundtrack to Friday night’s “End of Summer Bash” at the Niobrara Senior Center.
The center hosted an end of summer celebration that included burgers and brats, live music and an open beverage tasting which included a diverse selection of adult beverages ranging with labels from “Not your Daddy’s Rootbeer” to “Clubtails” premixed cocktails to the classic Coors Banquet.
Jerry Schutt and Eva Titchener manned the grill while Randi Ross and Yvonne Jensen served dinner. Spirits provided the beverages and live music was courtesy of “Tall Paul” Swartz. Swartz’s music has been the soundtrack to many an event around Niobrara county for the last five decades, and many would contend he gets better with age, or maybe it’s that they just don’t make music like they used to. In any event, the music was enjoyed by all including couples that took advantage of the cleared dining room to dance to the classics.
There aren’t many places in today’s world where you can enjoy dinner, drinks and live music for the $10 price tag of the evening. Activity director Tami Jensen and Center Director Randi Ross emphasized that the events at the senior center, in particular those like the end of summer bash, are not just for “seniors”. Any of the community are invited to attend and the center would love to see more in the county take advantage of the great meals, entertainment and engaging activities that are offered from “Fried Chicken Friday” to cribbage, pool, bridge and more. For a comprehensive calendar contact the Niobrara Senior Center.
