Lusk Elks annual Hoop Shoop on January 19

LUSK – Children from the ages of 8-13 years old will again have the opportunity to compete in the Lusk Elks Hoop Shoot on January 19.

The Elks have been hosting the Hoop Shoot, which is a free throw program, this program has been offered through the Elks National Foundation. The Hoop Shoot allows every boy and girl in their communities the opportunity to participate in a fun, age appropriate program that helps to set them up for future success.

The early days of the Elks Hoop Shoot was in 1946 when the late past National Elks president Frank Hise. Hise was observing local boys playing basketball and notice that the smaller kids had a hard time keeping up with the bigger kids. It was at that moment that he decided to organize a free-throw contest where every kid could participate. It wasn’t until 1972 that the program held its first national finals in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1974 it was a huge year for the program. The Elks National Foundation began to fund the program. This was the year that girls were allowed to participate in the Hoop Shoot program.

The Lusk Elks Hoop Shoot will be on January 19 at 10 a.m. at the Lusk Elementary/Middle School Gym.  Be sure to come at least 20 minutes early for registration.

On January 25 the Elks District shoot in Casper the winner will then head to Massachusetts for the national competition.
