Several middle school track athletes participated in Best in the West Meet in Scottsbluff on Tuesday.
For the boys, Grant Ashurst pole vaulted to a gold medal clearing a personal best 9’ 6” to win that event.
Donovan Swisher also was close to a personal best in discus throwing almost 115’ to place 9th in the competitive field.
On the girls’ side, Kyla Lyons brought home a pair of podium finishes. She won the discus at 84’ 9” and was in silver position in the shot put with a throw of 29’ 9.5”.
Maci Lyons also brought home a gold medal in the 1600 in a school and meet record time of 5:46. She was also 7th in the 100 hurdles in 18.31.
Kaydence Nelson also competed in two individual events. She had a nice long jump of 14’ to place 8th and cleared 4’ 6” in the high jump to place 5th.
Hazel Gaukel pole vaulted a personal best 7’ 6” to place 5th. She also broke the school record for the 800 with a time of 2:41.23 and placed 6th in a fast field.
The 4X400 relay team of Gaukel, Nelson, and the Lyons twins shattered the school record by 8 seconds to place 2nd in that race. Their time was 4:31.59.
