Middle school girls’ basketball begins

GLENROCK – The Niobrara County Middle School Lady Tiger basketball teams opened their season on Friday in Glenrock versus Burns and Pine Bluffs.

The A Team went 1-1 on the day. The girls opened with Burns in what could be the SEWAC championship game at the end of the season in a tight game. They fell to Burns, 26-27, in a great game that ended with a missed 3-point attempt at the buzzer set up by Addy Matthews to Kadence Nelson.  

Kyla Lyons led the scoring with 16 followed by seventh-grader Wyncee Brott with six. Kadence Nelson and Maci Lyons each added a bucket in the fourth quarter.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers dominated the Hornets from start to finish, winning 31-16.

Scoring for the Tigers was Kyla Lyons with 18, Maci Lyons with five, Brott with four, Nelson two, and Aspen Bieri two.

The B Team played very well on the day and won both games. The score against Burns was 18-11. Wyncee Brott led the Tigers with 10 points. Maci Lyons added four while Blakely Hodge and Delani Vetter each added two.

The Tigers throttled Pine Bluffs B, 26-8. Brott led the scoring again with eight, followed by Vetter with six and Hodge and Laurel Poage with four apiece. Hazel Gaukel and Aalyiah Pavone each added two.

The C Team went 0-2 on the day. The score against Burns was 18-7. Poage scored four, Avery Johnson two, and Addie Lytle one.

Pine Bluffs was a tighter game with Niobrara County falling by a single point, 11-10. Poage scored four points again, Amber Luker two, Johnson two and Mya Goodwin two.
