LUSK - The NCHS FBLA once again hosted a successful fundraiser with their third annual Career, Technical and Fine Arts Night dinner and showcase. Held on April 23, the night is not only a way for the local chapter to raise money for their trip to the national competition in June, but also the opportunity for the students involved in fine and technical (CTE) arts to showcase all their hard work.

The evening included a taco bar with churros served by parents of students and a self-guided tour through the shops and art studios at the high school. Multiple presentations by FBLA students were also going on giving attendees the opportunity to see what types of projects the FBLA students themselves were doing.

Beginning promptly at 5:30, the evening was a new format with the self-guided tour. In previous years FBLA students had taken large groups on tours of an art display and through the CTE classrooms and workshops. The new format allowed for more flexibility of schedule and also allowed the FBLA students to showcase their own projects, which was available in previous years. Those taking the tour were given a “passport” to have stamped to ensure they didn’t miss any of the tour stops. The more relaxed schedule allowed attendees to spend more time looking at projects and asking questions and FBLA students the chance to show off their own hard work.

The tour included stops in the metal shop and technical education classroom to view metal projects. A glance inside the shop itself showed off the new welding booths that students had assisted in building as well as projects waiting to be completed. In the FFA classroom resin-topped tables with metal frames and artwork were waiting for their new homes along with metal artwork by year 1 students. Electrical wiring boards from year 3 students were also on display. Moving into the wood shop impressive inlaid wooden boxes from the Intro to Tech middle school students as well as resin-inset end tables showed off the level of professionalism and finish expected of wood shop students.

As always, the tour of the art wing showed a wide range of skills and mediums with slab, coil and sculpted clay projects as well as acrylic and oil paintings. This will be long-time art teacher Roxanne Fish’s last year leading the art department and she will be greatly missed.

Presentations from FBLA students included product creation projects, marketing and many more.
