Phyllis Hahn uses her skills with words

CASPER – Former Lusk resident Phyllis Hahn, 95, recently competed in the annual Primrose Retirement Community company-wide spelling bee competition.

Hahn was a prominent member of the community for many years. Her husband Merle owned and operated Gambles for several years. Hahn wrote articles and columns for The Lusk Herald for decades. She is no stranger to the English lan- guage. Hahn was able to show off her lin- guistic skills during the contest.

According to Hahn, she hasn’t been in a spelling bee since the eighth grade. Hahn has always enjoyed words and, at one time, she had over 50 pen pals. Hahn has already one published book under her belt and is currently working a second book. The new manuscript will deal with Jim Griffith, who was a Wyoming politician.

The spelling bee is conducted remotely. Residents from five different cities com- pete for the Region 1 title. The top two winners will then be able to compete in the company-wide finals in October. Hahn will be returning for the final spell- ing bee contest where she will compete against 34 Primrose contestants.
