Five high school tracksters qualified for the prestigious Best in the West Classic held in Scottsbluff on Tuesday. This meet features the best track athletes in Eastern Wyoming and Western Nebraska.
Representing the Tigers in three events was Nathan Miller. Miller made the podium in the high jump where he went 6’ 2” to place 2nd. He also went a season’s best 20’ 8” in the long jump to place 5th along with triple jumping 37’.
Senior Gracie ZumBrunnen was also qualified in 3 events and made the podium in bronze position in the triple jump where she jumped 33’ 8.5”. ZumBrunnen also placed 6th in the long jump going over 16’.
Thrower Raynce Brott competed in both throws and brought home a bronze medal in the discus going just over 131’. He also threw 41’ 6” in the shot put.
Junior Isaac Assman ran in his first Best in the West meet in the 110 hurdles and placed 7th in 16.50.
Marleigh Smith jumped very well clearing 5’ in the high jump to place 6th.
On Friday, Brott and Miller headed to Casper to compete against the best in Wyoming regardless of classification.
Miller brought home the gold medal beating out several 3A and 4A jumpers. He cleared 6’ 4” to win that event.
Brott also brought home a medal of the silver color. He threw the discus a personal best 149’ 7” and was only beat by a Campbell County thrower.
