LUSK - For the second weekend in a row, Lusk hosted a track meet at NCHS. Five high school teams and seven middle school teams converged on Lusk to compete in the SEWAC track meet.
The Tigers performed very well on another nice, warm day. The boys’ team scored 92 team points to place 3rd in the team race while the girls scored 77 and placed 4th.
Sophomore thrower Raynce Brott was one of two boys who won two events. He won the gold in both the shot and discus. He threw over 146’ in the discus and 46’ 9.25” in the shot.
Junior Nathan Miller also was All Conference twice. He won the high jump clearing 6’ 2” and went 20’ 10” in the long jump to place 1st. He was also third in both the triple jump going 40’ 2” and also in the 100 m in 12.06.
Brady Swisher continued to improve. He placed 4th in both the 400 in 58.37 and pole vault clearing 9’ 6”. He also went over 18’ in the long jump to place 6th.
Jackson Smith placed in both hurdle races. He prequalified and placed 6th in the 110 hurdles in 18.06 and was 3rd in the 300 hurdles in 45.45. He also finished 4th in the long jump going a personal best 18’ 8.25”.
Joaquin Cassiano placed in both the 100 and 200. He ran 12.31 to place 5th in the 100 and 25.50 in the 200 for 4th. Connor Luker was right behind him in the 200 placing 5th in a time of 26.01.
Charlie Gaukel made 5’ 4” in the high jump for 5th place and also ran the 1600 for the first time this year in 6:09 for 5th place.
The relays rounded out the scoring. The 4X100 team of Cassiano, Brott, Swisher, and Luker ran 49.26 for 3rd place while the 4X400 team of Brott, Cassiano, Gaukel, and Cian Kimes placed 5th.
For the girls, Marleigh Smith was the lone gold medal winner in the high jump where she cleared 5’ to win. Smith also placed 2nd in the pole vault going over 7’ 6”, was 4th in the long jump going over 14’ and also 6th in the triple jump jumping over 30’.
Freshman Emily ZumBrunnen continues to perform well. She brought home 4 bronze medals. She ran 13.62 in the 100 and 28.43 in the 200, while jumping 14’ 7” in long jump and almost 32’ in the triple jump.
Jaci Vetter brought home runner up honors in the triple jump, going a prequalifying 32’ 4.25”.
Kyra Willey continued to throw well placing 3rd in the discus going over 98’ and was 4th in the shot put at 5.5”.
Addisyn Bauersachs placed 3rd in the high jump clearing 4’ 8” and Abby Glavan was 5th in the long jump at over 14’.
The 4X100 team of Vetter, Glavan, Bauersachs, and Bristol Cardwell ran 57.02 to place 4th.
The Tiger tracksters head to Torrington for the 1A East Regional Track Meet on Friday and Saturday to try to punch additional tickets to the State Track Meet.
