On Tuesday evening, the Lusk Town Council approved fees up to but not exceeding $750 for pet owners relinquishing animals to Lusk Animal Control for adoption. According to Mayor Doug Lytle, the amendment to this resolution concerning pets was necessitated by the increased expense of caring for relinquished pets. Most pet adoption agencies stipulate that former owners to spay or neuter the animals being relinquished. Additionally, former owners are typically required to cover the cost of feeding ad transporting the animal and provide up-to-date vaccinations.

Visitor Kaylee Barner addressed the council about the upcoming Ranch and Rodeo weekend on July 25 and 26. Barner asked the council to consider incentive options at the Golf Course and the swimming pool. Barner hopes that there will be a way to keep the visiting families and rodeo contestants to keep in Lusk and Niobrara County for the weekend. According to Mayor Lytle, special rates are only offered during the week. Weekend attendees must pay full price. Mayor Lytle told Banner that the policy concerning discounted fees was approved last month. Lytle said he would consider different options and would reach out to Banner with ideas at a later time.

Visitor Sheila Boldon of the Niobrara County Semi-Quincentennial Committee addressed the council concerning the forthcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The year 2026 will witness the nation’s arrival at this milestone.  Likewise, Wyoming will be celebrating its state anniversary that very same year.  Boldon explained that her committee was only requesting a signed letter of support from the town. Mayor Lytle said the town would make sure to sign the letter.

The next Town of Lusk Council meeting will be held on April 1 at 5 p.m. at Lusk Town Hall.
