John Kenneth Eberspecher of Harrison, Nebraska passed away November 15th 2018 at his home in Harrison, Nebraska.

Memorial services were held Monday November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Harrison Bible Church in Harrison with Pastor Matt Parker officiating.  Cremation has taken place.  Memorials can be made in John’s name to the Harrison Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE  69337.

John was born in rural Sioux County on August 10th, 1937 to Jesse Christian and Katherine (Doyle) Eberspecher. John was the sixth of eventually 8 children born to Chris and Katherine.  Times were tough with all the kids but there was never a shortage of attention or teasing (of which John excelled at).  John attended a one room elementary school with his brothers and sisters and other rural children.  John graduated from Sioux County High School in 1955.  John married Mavis Maureen Hall on April 26, 1962.  To this marriage, they were blessed with two children, Amy Eberspecher Murphy, and Glen John Eberspecher.  John worked for Carnahan Construction early on, and then started working for Mobil Oil delivering fuel and oil products around the county.  In 1976 John and Mavis started Eberspecher Oil Company and they owned and operated the business until their retirement on March 28th, 2003.  John enjoyed his job and getting to visit with his customers/friends.  John covered a lot of ground during those years, with deliveries into 3 states and 5 counties, taking great pride in getting the products delivered when the customers needed it.  John was also known to carry around suckers for kids.  In John’s spare time he could be found fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren – of which was one of his most favorite things to do, enjoying a cup of coffee with friends, and shooting a game of pool.  John was not known as an indoor person, and truly was in his element when he was outside or in the garage tinkering.  Those that knew John and were privileged enough to hear some of his stories were the lucky ones, and if you were especially special he called you a “damn dummy”.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years Mavis, children Amy Murphy of Gering, and Glen (Deb) Eberspecher of Mitchell NE.  Grandchildren:  Nick Murphy of Scottsbluff, and Katie Murphy of Gering.  Erica (Jarad) Cole of Westminster Co, Colby (Katelyn) Eberspecher of Mitchell NE. Great grandchildren Brittyn (Bert) Murphy/Kilthau, Roisin (Ro) Murphy, Ivory Eberspecher, and Felic Murphy. Sisters and brothers Patricia (Jack)Garner of Lusk, Jerry Eberspecher of Crawford, Spike (Peggy) Eberspecher of Scottsbluff NE, and Evelyn (Monte) Carland of Lusk Wyoming.  John also has numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Katherine, Sisters Betty Hanson, Kathleen Gilbert, and Wilma Eberspecher.

The family would like to thank all of those that knew John, each one made John more unique.   John was a true Friend, Husband, Brother, Father.  John had a special way of making people feel special in his own extraordinary way.

Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
