Vera Leeling

Memorial services for Vera Leeling, 87, were held Sept.16, 2017 at 10:30 am with Mark Lohr officiating.  Private family inurnment was held at the Lusk Cemetery following the family and friends gathering at the Lusk Elks Lodge. Vera was born Sept 2, 1930 at Moorcroft, Wyo. to Edward Merrill Lantz and Jennie Myrtle Reynolds. Her education includes elementary school in rural Sioux County schools and  high school graduation from Sioux County High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to Cliff Leeling .

She worked at Sioux County courthouse in Superintendent for several years and from there went to the USPS as a postal clerk until retirement. Was a member of Harrison VFW auxiliary, Lusk Drove 64 Does, joining in May of 1978. She was a score keeper for the pitch tournaments for several years which she thoroughly enjoyed.  She was a very independent person and was full of spunk and very tenacious right up until to the end. Enjoyed a beer occasionally with her friends. She did not fit the profile of a typical “little old lady” she was solely taking care of herself up until the last of August when a fall started her on a downhill course with her health . She was a classy lady.

Survivors include Daughter; Lois Jean and husband Martin Hanley of Crawford, Ne,.,Grand children include Raymond and wife Becky Hanley of Marsland, Ne, Jenny and husband Dale Batt of Mitchell, Ne., Rusty and wife Heidi Hanley of Lincoln, Ne.  Great grandchildren  Jesse McRoberts, Rebecca Ashing, Heather Hanley, Michael Hanley, Jesse Young, Corbin Batt, Lilly Hanley, Suzy Hanley, also  sisters-in-law, June Martin Of Oxnard Ca., Wanda  Leeling  of Casper, Wy. Carol Leeling of Friendship, TN and a few cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Cliff in 1986 and brothers-in-law,  Gordon, Donald, Roy and Wendell . The family requests in-lieu of flowers that a memorial to the Lusk Does Drove 64 for Service dogs that are for blind-autistic-and epileptic people.   It was one of her favorite fund raising efforts of the Does organization. Or a memorial of donor’s choice.
