LUSK – John Graham, founder of Coyote Days, has been hosting Coyote Days for eight years now and has brought together other like-minded trappers and fur traders alike on August 14-15 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

LUSK - The evening began with comments from Wyoming House District 2 State Representative JD Williams. Those who know him well know that he is interested in improving our economy, Williams shared. He explained that minerals, tourism, and agriculture, in that order, are what feed Wyoming’s economy. Williams discussed Wyoming’s Permanent Mineral Trust Fund, which is a large savings account from past mineral income. He described the fund as generational wealth that former generations have put away for future generations.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – Summer is quickly coming to an end and school will begin next week on August 18. Before school begins, however, Niobrara County School District #1 will host a back-to-school open house on August 17.

LUSK - A Day in the Life of Lusk took place on Saturday, August 8. The event featured many amazing displays and presentations.

LUSK – The Niobrara County Farm Bureau Federation will be hosting a candidate forum at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds on August 4 for local candidates at 6 p.m. There will be another forum on August 5 at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds for Wyoming state and federal candidates. A meal will be provided by Farm Bureau prior to both forums at 5 p.m.

LUSK – Residents awoke to the sounds of a crash on North Main Street between Fifth Street and Sixth Street on July 23 at approximately 11:10 p.m.

LUSK - On July 21, the Town of Lusk published the following notice on its Facebook page:

LUSK – The results are in, and another successful year is noted in the books with the Rawhide Ranch Rodeo.

LUSK - The vendor participation at this year's Ranch Rodeo was fantastic. There was a wide variety of vendors: jewelry, leatherwork, homemade clothing, tack, gate systems, food and beverage, custom-built cowboy hats, saddlery, silversmithing, bits and spurs, plus more. There were many returning vendors, as well as new ones.

LUSK – The Lusk Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) responded to a structure fire at 10:15 p.m. on July 13 at 510 Linn Street.

LUSK - Lusk will be presenting Chautauqua historical portrayals during “A Day in the Life of Lusk” on Saturday, August 8. Fifteen prominent figures from the past will help celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. They will be scattered downtown from 1 to 4 pm.

Lusk - Following the normal consent agenda the Lusk Town Council heard from New York Life Insurance Agent Denise Erickson regarding making a group whole life insurance plan option available to employees. It would function the same way as AFLAC and be an optional, employee-paid benefit. Council agreed to allow it and employee meetings will be coordinated with department heads.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – Deliberate vandalism is always difficult to accept on private property and more so for the owners of Paleo Park on the Zerbst Ranch in Northern Niobrara County. It was discovered that person(s) trespassed onto the famous Paleo Park lands and damaged one of the rarest dinosaur footprints in the world, on its famous trackway.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – Niobrara County Deputy Attorney Doyle Davies was surprised by the Niobrara County Commissioners and County Attorney Anne Wasserburger with a moment to thank him for his service to Niobrara County during the commissioners’ meeting on July 7.

LUSK – On July 2 the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) responded to a house fire on North Diamond Street.

LUSK – The Fourth of July fireworks throughout Lusk lit up the sky at dusk, and although there were concerns from some community members about possible fires that could happen as a result of the fireworks, only one fire happened during the evening events.

MANVILLE - About 80 people spent a few hours during their July 4 celebrations at the old school gym in Manville to hear about the history of the area. Presentations during the “Day in the Life of Manville, Keeline, and Jireh” were given by Richard Ladwig, Kyle Gruwell, Dan Gaukel, Georgia Shoults, and Karen Gaukel.

Lusk - The American Red Cross of Wyoming is assisting two adults affected by a house fire on July 2 in Lusk, Red Cross assistance can provide care, comfort, mental health and health services, disaster supplies, lodging, and assistance for other immediate needs. Further assistance will be provided as needed.

LUSK – The fifth annual Lusk Municipal Airport Fly-In and Drive-In will be held on July 18 at the Airport from 7 a.m. – noon.

MANVILLE - Did you know: There was once a cheese factory in Manville? There was a college in Jireh that offered four years of high school and two years of college? Keeline once had a bank, a newspaper, elementary and high schools, and 440 residents? The first person buried in the Manville cemetery was murdered and his assailant was never caught? The 1700-pound college bell in Jireh was donated to the Red Cross in World War II to be salvaged for the war effort? Keeline shipped out more cream, hogs, and grain than any other place between Chadron and Douglas? Manville once had 1500 residents?
