LUSK – The Lusk Town Council has introduced a new ordinance, which had its first reading during the December 2 meeting. The ordinance was put in place because of offensive odors that have prompted complaints from the community. Odors include chemicals, carcasses, and open burning of trash.

NIOBRARA – The Niobrara County Commissioners met on December 2 to discuss several items on the agenda. There were two public hearings during the meeting. The first public hearing involved the renewal of a retail liquor license for Paleo Park. No one objected and the commissioners approved the renewal of the liquor license.

LUSK – It is the time of year of giving and this year is no different with the last blood drive of 2025. One person giving blood can save up to three lives. On December 2 the blood drive will be held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, opening at 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.

LUSK - For man, the Biblical account of David and Goliath exemplifies the theme of the underdog victory. It is the classic example of an otherwise diminutive person overcoming a giant through faith and courage. For the South Dakota ranching couple of Charles and Heather Maude, the story mirrors their own. The Maudes shared that story with a modest gathering of Lusk residents at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds on Thursday, November 20.

LUSK - The Niobrara County Hospital Auxiliary is an organization that, through fundraising, supports Niobrara Community Hospital. Our primary focus is to provide patient care items and things that will enhance the lives of our extended care residents. We have three main fundraising events each year, a salad luncheon in the spring, Christmas greenery sales in October and Lights of Love in December. Thank you to everyone who supported us by purchasing greens this year.  If you missed it, there will be a limited amount of Christmas greenery at the Christmas Bazaar on December 5 & 6.

LUSK – Niobrara County High School (NCHS) junior class gave two performances of their play “The One-Act Play Disaster” on November 20 and 21, bringing laughs and their own stunts throughout the performances.

Niobrara County – Local Holiday events will begin December 5. It will begin with the Niobrara County Homemakers Christmas Bazaar. There will be more than enough venders for Christmas shoppers to choose from, beginning on December 5, 4-8 p.m. at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds. On December 6 the Christmas Bazaar continues, from  9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds. Niobrara 4-Hers will have food and drinks.

LUSK – It may not have been Tuesday but tacos, nachos, chips and queso were all on the menu at the November Mustard Seed. Sponsored by St. George’s Episcopal church and hosted by the Niobrara County 4-H council, the Mustard Seed provided a free meal for the community and information on various 4-H programs. The meal was prepared and served by various leaders and members of the county program.

LUSK – Last Tuesday on Veteran’s Day there was no shortage of events honoring the men and women of Niobrara County who have served their county in the military. The day began with a breakfast served to veterans and their families by the Lusk Elks Lodge and the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Auxiliary #3511. LEMS (Lusk Elementary/Middle School) students invited veterans to enjoy a lunch. After lunch LEMS students hosted a Veteran’s Day program with songs, quilts and plenty of American flags honoring of the service men and women.

LUSK – Niobrara County High School (NCHS) Junior class has been preparing for their annual class play. in titled “The One Act Play Disaster.” This entertaining production will be performed on November 20 and 21 at NCHS auditorium. The curtains rise at 7 p.m.

MANVILLE – Heavenly sounds will delight the ears of Niobrara County residents and surrounding areas on November 23 when the WyoRing bell choir performs holiday favorites at the Manville Community Church.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – The Niobrara County Commissioners met with members of the Old Jail Steering Committee and Leslie Stewart to discuss the future of the historical carceral building on November 4. The Old Jail Steering Committee was formed last year and hosted tours during Niobrara Alumni weekend.

LUSK – The holidays are fast approaching and several families in the community need help with procuring groceries. A group of community members have come together to organize the Lusk Community Food Drive. Morgan Nolan, director of the Niobrara County Chamber of Commerce, has been busy composing flyers, collecting boxes for food donations and preparing the Niobrara Senior Center for the food drive.

LUSK – Looking for a reason to dress up in your finest bling and fancy cowboy boots? Well, Boots and Bling is the perfect time to show off blingy country duds. November 15. The fourth annual Boots and Bling is slated for November 15.

LUSK – Ostensibly, the Korean War exhibits many of the common characteristics of other wars. It was a politically motivated conflict that precipitated mass acts of systematic violence, which invariably ended in human suffering.

LUSK - Some students come full circle, becoming either instructors or part of the administrative machinery that constitutes a considerable portion of the educational establishment. Such is the case with Tyler Crisman, a member of Niobrara County High School’s Class of 2000. Crisman joined the University of Wyoming (UW) as associate vice president and dean of students on July 28. Yet, the tug of hometown ties pulled Crisman back to Lusk on October 29 when he spoke at the “UW in your community event” in the Niobrara County Fairgrounds auditorium.

LUSK – The Niobrara County School District #1 (NCSD #1) school board discussed the second reading of its conceal carry policy on October 20. The discussion centered on the policy’s language, stipulations for hours of live shooting training, and active shooter scenarios. The second reading of the policy, dubbed CKA Firearms Personnel Authorized to Carry, was allowed to fail so that the board could make changes concerning these areas.

LUSK – Lusk’s downtown business owners will be expecting superheroes, spooks and ghouls during the Niobrara Chamber of Commerce sponsored Downtown Trick-or-Treating and after the 4-H annual Halloween Carnival.
