LUSK - Friday night’s pregame ceremony was a stirring tribute to 25 years since the 9/11 attacks. Niobrara County High School honored the first responders and lives lost from that tragic day, long before any of these current players were born yet. It was the first time Sundance has visited Gibson Field at Fullmer Stadium since 2010.
CRAWFORD, NEBRASKA - Niobrara County High School had a busy week of volleyball that began with a triangular in Cornhusker territory last Tuesday. The Lady Tigers faced Crawford/Sioux County and came up short in two sets. Scores went 25-17 and 25-19.
KIMBALL, NEBRASKAS - The Tiger XC team tried a new course on Friday as they journeyed to Kimball, Nebraska. to run a fairly flat race on their golf course. As of the time of this article, no official results have been posted, so there are no specific times.
LUSK - It had to be the first game jitters and near 90 degree temperatures that affected both squads in the season opener last Friday night. Niobrara County High School and Big Piney combined for seven penalties in an ugly first quarter on the new turf on Gibson Field at Fullmer Stadium.
LINGLE - Niobrara County High School had a light schedule this past week, but it was productive. The Lady Tigers went to Dogger Gym last Thursday evening and came home with a thrilling five-set win over Lingle-Fort Laramie.
GERING, NEBRASKA - The Tiger cross country runners faced hot weather on Friday in Gering, where temperatures reached the 90s during several races, with little relief.
SHOSHONI - The Tiger football team met the squad that eliminated them from the 2025 playoffs in a scrimmage last Saturday afternoon. The neutral-site matchup against Greybull featured perfect temperatures and a storm cloud that lingered over the Wind River Canyon.
LINGLE - Niobrara County High School tipped off the volleyball season last Friday, and came home with two wins in three matches. After two years of 1A competition, Lusk is back in 2A. Despite the switch, the Lady Tigers faced some familiar opponents at the Dogger Invitational.
CHEYENNE - Last Thursday and Friday, the Niobrara County Golf Team traveled to Cheyenne to take on 4A and 3A competition at the Airport Golf Course. The Tigers competed against Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, and Cheyenne South's varsity teams, along with Casper Natrona, Casper Kelly Walsh, Laramie, and Torrington's Varsity.
NEWCASTLE - The Tiger Cross Country team opened its 2026 campaign by traveling to Mallo Camp north of Newcastle on Friday to compete.
LUSK: Niobrara County High School begins its third season of cross country and a pair of sophomore girls carry the torch this fall. The Lady Tigers run in the Powder River Conference with a lot of the 2A Northeast schools. Most of them have established programs while head coach Jim Lyons is still in the building stage.

SUNDANCE - The Tiger Boys Golf Team began their season in Sundance on Friday, August 21st. The Tiger's two seniors, Hudson Leimser and Aubrey Manning, travelled to compete while the three underclassmen remained in Lusk to continue honing their games for the upcoming events.
LUSK – Rawhide Gymnastics coach Kristen Gordon expects an exciting year for future gymnasts, with open enrollment through August 31.
LUSK - Randy Rose, a longtime music educator and coach from Lusk is being inducted into the Niobrara County School District Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. With his boundless energy, enthusiasm, and larger-than-life personality, Randy dedicated 32 years to building vibrant, exciting programs that brought tremendous pride to Lusk and created unforgettable experiences for countless students — truly embodying Building Legacies Through Dedication and Community.
LUSK - The 1966 Niobrara County High School (NCHS) Tigers Wrestling Team achieved a historic milestone by capturing the first state championship in any sport in school history. In 1966, all teams headed to the State Tournament with every weight class represented. As a Class A school, NCHS was ranked No. 1 in the state and competed successfully against larger Double AA programs from Casper Natrona, Cheyenne Central, Laramie, and Rapid City, South Dakota.
LUSK - The Niobrara County High School Volleyball Team has been busy this summer prepping for the upcoming season! We have had several Open Gym sessions and three different camps this summer. Eight Lady Tigers attended a co-op skills camp with Edgemont, South Dakota at the end of June. Thanks to Edgemont Head Coach Randy Stevens, the girls were able to learn a variety of skills from Black Hills State Head Volleyball Coach Grayson DuBose and two current Black Hills State Volleyball players. It was a demanding two days with bruises to show for it – but each player rose to the challenge!
LUSK - Sally (Powers) Nichols is a former standout multi-sport athlete from Lusk, and a member of the Niobrara County High School (NCHS) Class of 1996. She is being inducted into the Niobrara County School District (NCSD) Hall of Fame a part of the Class of 2026. Building on the lessons learned from her Tiger coaches and community, Sally continues to inspire others to be their best.
