NIOBRARA COUNTY – Niobrara residents came out and casted their votes during the General Election of 2024 on November 5.
According to the unofficial Niobrara General Election, 1,244 ballots were cast.
There were single candidates on the ballots. County Commissioner candidate Jeb Hanson had 1,115 and State Representative House District 2 JD Williams had 1,047.
Niobrara Community Hospital Board candidates Dan H. Hanson had 1,024 and Travis Krein had 836.
Niobrara Senior Center board candidates Jim Kremers earned 910 votes and his running mate Jackie Bredthauer came in with 890 votes. There is still one open seat that was not filled with only two candidates ran.
The Niobrara County School District #1 Board candidates had seven candidates for five open seats. First time candidates Lisa Pischel earned the most votes with 753. Taylor Barnette came in second with 742 votes. Two candidates that were running for reelection retained their seats. Jeremy Nelson earned 628 votes and Cheryl Lund received 601 votes. First time candidate Wesley Vetter had 586. Katie Kruse received 583 votes and Janae Miller received 560 votes, knocking them out of the race. Lorn Heth was running for reelection and had 542 votes.
“Thank you to all of those that supported me. I look forward to serving the Niobrara County School District,” Barnette said of his win.
“Thank you for your support during this election. I take this responsibility seriously and look forward to working alongside the other board members, employees of the district and members of the community,” Vetter said of his win.
Niobrara County residents voted no on Constitutional Amendment A, separating residential property into its own category for property tax assessments, with 644 against and 443 for.
