The annual Niobrara Health Fair Blood Draw is scheduled from 6 am to 9 am this Thursday, September 14 and Friday September 15 at the Niobrara Fairgrounds Auditorium. If you miss these dates you will have to wait until this time next year to take advantage of the great prices on blood lab work. The most common test, the HealthScreen/TSH/Direct LDL/Ferritin (previously called the chemistry panel) is priced at a low $32. This test gives a good overall picture of one’s health including cholesterol, thyroid, liver, kidney, muscle and bone screenings. Other tests available include: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test for men; the Hemoglobin AIC for diabetics; Vitamin D screening; complete blood count (CBC); Cardio CRP, which checks for arterial inflammation; and an intensive cholesterol test known as the Cardio IQ®+HealthScreen. The other tests are also a great value since they are priced well below most hospital lab prices. Results will be available to participants at the health fair in October.
Remember this event is sponsored locally every year by the Niobrara Health Fair Committee, a non-profit organization. Any profits from the blood draw are returned to the community, Scholarships for students preparing for a career in a health related field are awarded annually. Another project of the group is maintaining CPR equipment and materials for training through Niobrara Community Education. The group has also assisted the Senior Center with their life line devices and Niobrara Community Hospital with some equipment needs.
