Lincoln’s birthday was celebrated on Monday, February 12. To coincide with the occasion, the Niobrara Republican Party threw a Lincoln Day Bash at the Fairgrounds. The celebration included a silent auction, live auction, dinner, and Cowboy Poet and Humorist, Andy Nelson. The silent auction was open for the majority of the night while the live auction began following a barbeque dinner. Key items in the live auction included an informational plaque containing a piece of the Berlin Wall, a quilt donated by Lickety Stitch, a cooler filled with meat from Deckers; followed by another large selection of meat including various steaks, and a bucking horse wooden coffee table made by Chad Stauffer. Nelson entertained the crowd with a mixture of his cowboy poetry; poems based largely off of Nelson’s life and short anecdotal jokes following dinner and the live auction. In addition, Jeb Hanson was winner of the door prize and James Kruse won the 50/50 raffle.
