On Wednesday, March 20 fourteen Niobrara County High School students traveled to Laramie, WY for the State FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Competition. This year 665 members from 35 different chapters competed in objective tests, case studies, and presentations over a two day period. The conference started off on Thursday morning at Opening Ceremony where Holly Hoffman, a competitor on the hit reality TV show Survivor, spoke to the members on the six keys to success; faith, attitude, determination, confidence, desire, and perseverance.

During the conference, the students had the opportunity to compete, attend workshops, and tour the University of Wyoming. On Thursday night our FBLA chapter attended the Wyoming Cowgirls WNIT round one game. Thursday evening several NCHS members were notified they made finals on Friday in their presentations. After Friday's competition, the students attended the FBLA dance and went bowling.

The members’ countless hours of dedication and hard work paid off. Abby Kottwitz and Alec Penfield just missed finals in Graphic Design. Bryce Goodwin and Chase Berens competed in several objective tests. Danni Larson and Lucy Ceaglske placed 8th in Publication Design; Rylee Matthews placed 6th in Public Speaking. Mackenzie Lyons placed 8th in Electronic Career Portfolio and 9th in Job Interview. Julianne Graham, Mackenzie Lyons, and Makena Engelker placed 5th in Broadcast Journalism; Courtney Rowley and Bryn Bruch placed 6th in Website Design. In the objective testing, Dannie Larson placed 8th in Introduction to Informational Technology and Lucy Ceaglske placed 8th in Political Science.

State winners who place in the top four are then eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference. This year the FBLA National Leadership Conference will be held in San Antonio, Tex. June 29-July 2. Eight NCHS members will be attending nationals, Jasper Caldera and Walker Kupke who placed 3rd in Intro to Business Presentation; Courtney Rowley, Rylee Matthews and Bryn Bruch who placed 4th in Community Service Project; Mackenzie Lyons, Makena Engelker, and Julianne Graham who placed 4th in Local Chapter Annual Business Report. Please support our national delegates in their fundraising efforts at the Mustard Seed Dinner on May 8 at St. George’s Episcopal Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
