Niobrara County Fair: ‘Tails and Trails of Niobrara County’

Posted

A week of year-long hard work, showmanship, and new memories spanned from Friday, July 28 to Saturday, August 5 in the form of the Niobrara County Fair. This years’ theme was ‘Tails and Trails of Niobrara County’ and with events ranging from gardening and photography to horse, swine, and poultry shows, ranch rodeo and gymkhana, the returning lawn mower races and nightly community barbeques, Niobrara County residents had a chance to get out and see what the fair had to offer. Free community barbeques held nightly at the fair beginning Tuesday, August 1, were sponsored by Lusk Alliance Church, the Ron Lund Memorial Pig Barbeque sponsored by Wavy7 Livestock, Vigortone & Mineral, Harmony Lodge 24, Pontarolo Construction, and Hiway Super Service, the Junior Livestock Sale sponsored by Clark & Associates, Insurance Corner, and Ranchers Feed and Supply, and concluded with the August 4th barbeque sponsored by NEA.
A parade held on Friday, August 4, made its way through Lusk and offered a creative edge in the form of float decorating for the different entrants, including the different 4-H Clubs that call Niobrara County home. Results in the different divisions are as follows:
Commercial: Jordan Automotive
Non Profit:
1st- Wyoming Early Childhood Development

2nd- Danny Matney
3rd- Jerry Miller
4-H:
1st: Up and Coming Club
2nd: Lance Creek Club
3rd: Cheyenne River Club
Parade Chairman Choice: Will Boldon’s
1946 Ford.
Will Boldon’s 1946 Ford was a unique entry into the parade this year, his truck once belonging to Jimmy and Carmen Shane; the doors still read ‘Shane Herefords’. Jimmy and Carmen celebrated their 60th Anniversary this year and together sitting on chairs, they rode on the back of the pickup tossing candy.
