Son of the Gun banquet to be sponsored WFC

Posted

NIOBRARA COUNTY – The Wyoming Firearms Committee is a local organization that firmly believes in the 2nd Amendment as an individual right. The WFC supports programs and activities that help all American citizens, from our neighbors to our country. Net proceeds, 100%, benefit local activities such as the 4-H Shooting Sports, The Niobrara Gun Club, and Search and Rescue. Interested clubs and groups go through a grant process judged by the WFC to apply for funding. In addition, the WFC will be awarding scholarships. Interested applicants will be required to write a paper on the 2nd Amendment.

As the change of seasons draw near, the people of Niobrara County and surrounding areas look forward to the Friends of the NRA banquet, and they will be bringing a change to the annual event. Due to the ongoing disruption in the supply chain due to COVID 19, as many find in their daily lives, this has hit the FNRA as well. The FNRA would not be able to supply a standard event package to the local committee. The Western Firearms Committee was formed by the past FNRA committee to overcome this challenge. Through this committee, the New Western Firearms Committee (WFC), the Son of a Gun Banquet was born.

The first Son of a Gun Banquet will be held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 23, 2021. They will host many of the games played in the past, with some twists and new games too. Attendees are encouraged to look for the Mug Raffle, Ammo Cans, Bullet Board, Rack of Guns, Red. White and Blue tables and so much more. There will be more firearms than in the past and the quality of the guns is higher. A more colorful theme, the fantastic prime rib dinner catered by Hickory Creek Catering, and the live auction will round out the evening. Dinner tickets are $35 each with 12 and under eating free. Tickets can be purchased from any of the committee members. Interested persons can also check out the information posted on their Facebook page called the Western Firearms Committee by “liking it,” or if one is not a fan of computers, call Dan Cushman at 334-3172.

In the early spring of 2021, it was voted to form the local organization and proceed to file for the status of being a 501(C3) entity. Officers of the newly formed committee are Chairman Dan Cushman, Vice-Chairman Gene Green, Secretary/Treasurer Barbara Cushman, and some of the longtime supporters of the NRA banquet, which include Karen Alvis, Krystal Peterson, Kevin and Julie Gaukel, Kaden Gaukel, Kaitlin Gaukel, Rich Pullen, Jim and Shari Jordan, Wyatt and Alysha Cushman, Rick and Crystal Zerbe, Danny Tadewald, Judy Martin, sisters Hannah and Fionna Kerkes.
