LUSK – The Niobrara County School District #1 (NCSD #1) school board decided to speed up the process of searching for a replacement for superintendent Dan Schmidt during Monday’s meeting.  According to chairwoman Lexi Ashurst, Schmidt will stay until the end of the school year. 

LUSK – Lusk has been without a daycare for several years, which has posed as an ongoing challenge for local working parents. There could finally be a solution to this longstanding dilemma with the recent opening of Sunshine & Spurs Childcare Center, LLC. Former Niobrara Chamber Director, Morgan Nolan has always had a desire to open her own daycare.

Lusk - The University of Wyoming Extension will offer two pesticide safety education programs for private applicators in Lusk Tuesday, January 27. Both sessions will take place at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds, located at 4080 W. Hwy 20.

LUSK – Dawn Hall has been preparing since last year for her recent move into the position of Lusk’s town clerk/treasurer.  Hall has lived in 12 different states over the years. Wyoming is the 13th place she has moved to. Hall lived in Utah before moving to Wyoming. It was there that she met her significant other, local man Ryan Prather.

LUSK – The Town of Lusk town council had a busy meeting on January 3, welcoming visitors, hearing an informative presentation and appointing of a new Town Clerk/Treasurer. Town of Lusk Attorney Denny Meier swore in Dawn Hall as the new Town of Lusk Town Clerk/Treasurer. Hall has been working closely for the last six months with former town clerk, Linda Frye. At the end of the month, Frye will return to retirement.

TORRINGTON - Another Christmas has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean that all holiday events have come to a halt. Such was the case with the seventh annual Toys for Tots Team Roping, which was held on Saturday, January 3 in Torrington.

NIOBRARA COUNTY - The Eastern Wyoming Nature Center has announced an exciting milestone in its mission to create a museum in Lusk, Wyoming: the successful fundraising effort to purchase a rare Xiphactinus fossil fish skeleton. This remarkable specimen—an iconic giant predator from the Late Cretaceous seaway—will become one of the center’s first major acquisitions and a highlight of its developing paleontology collection.

LUSK – Lusk pickleball enthusiast will have something to look forward to in 2026. The town of Lusk is planning on revamping Northside Park, upgrade will include two pickleball courts.

NIOBRARA COUNTY - The two Explore Niobrara events held this fall were very well received. Plans are underway for the 2026 activities to build on that success.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – The Niobrara County Commissioners met on December 16 to discuss the loss of Lauren Faurie, University of Wyoming Extension Educator and 4-H/Youth Development.

LUSK – On December 16 evening, 61-year-old Leslye Prince was heading west bound on the 400 block of Linn Street and swerved into a local woman’s parked vehicle.

LUSK - It’s the holidays, which means families, friends, festivities and, most importantly, food. All four were present at the annual Christmas dinner hosted by the local branch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) on Saturday, December 13. For the last three years, the VFW has partnered with “A Night in Bethlehem,” making the two events adjacent affairs. According to VFW Commander Ed Tirado, it was a partnership that exemplified a time-worn aphorism with a holiday twist: “The more, the merrier Christmas.”  

LUSK – The Lusk Elementary/Middle School Robotics Team recently competed at state, earning 14th place out of 48 teams.

LUSK – Niobrara County High School (NCHS) seniors enjoyed a day of cowboy boots and outing on November 28. While on their outing the seniors learned the importance of mental health and suicide prevention from the Jae Foundation.

Last Saturday night may have been cold, but the bowls and bellies of many residents were quite warm. Several community members brought their appetites and spoons to “A Chili Night in Wyoming,” a local gala of chili tasting, holiday parades, and Christmas tree lightings. The event was hosted by Lusk ROCS [Revitalize Our Community Spirit], an organization committed to fostering local pride. Tandy Dockery, who has been a member of Lusk ROCS since 2029, believes that the group has achieved this goal so far.  

LUSK – Hoping to pass on the torch of quilting, Karen Wisseman and Mildred Lewis are happily hanging up their scissors and thread.

LUSK - The awards luncheon for the Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts’ 80th Annual Convention, From Prairie to Peak: 80 Years of Wyoming Conservation was held in Gillette. Lusk’s very own Second grade teacher, Amy Swisher was named Teacher of the Year. This award recognizes any educator of a public or private school system that takes extraordinary steps to ensure that balanced natural resource conservation education is delivered in the classroom.  

LUSK - The community is invited to come enjoy a beautiful Christ Centered display of Nativities again this year. Besides nativities of all types, there will be musical entertainment including Prairie Hills Worship Team, a harpist and vocalists from Casper, WY. A children’s craft area will again be featured and delicious cookies and hot chocolate will be served.
