The Tiger track teams opened their season this weekend with two meets. On Friday, they traveled to Pine Bluffs for their Early Hornet with a partial team.

Cheyenne-In their second appearance at the Wyoming State Gymnastics competition Rawhide Gymnastics didn’t just show up, they managed to snag individual medals in every event and several individual all-around placings.

LUSK -During the Niobrara County School District Hall of Fame committee meeting earlier this month, the 2026 class was voted in. While the pool of applications continues to grow, Douglas Lytle, Sally (Powers) Nichols, Debbie Rose, Randy Rose, Melvin ZumBrunnen and the 1966 wrestling team were inducted. A few highlights of the honorees include (with full bios to be published later):

TORRINGTON - The Niobrara School District esports program had an outstanding showing at the state esports tournament this past weekend, with students competing at a high level and representing our school district with pride.

LUSK: - As the winter sports season comes to a close, Niobrara County High School was honored with a handful of post-season basketball awards.

CASPER - The Tigers spent most of the season lurking behind Lingle-Fort Laramie and looking for a fourth chance to knock off the Doggers. However the four West schools at last week’s 1A State Championships made it a tough weekend on the four East schools. Niobrara County High School took on Burlington Friday afternoon at the Ford Wyoming Center, in a first ever tournament game against the Huskies. Raynce Brott got Lusk off to an early lead on a layup and free toss before Burlington responded. Brott slipped past a pair of defenders for the layup to beat the buzzer and the game was tied at 13 after one period.

CASPER - It was a tough weekend at the 1A state Championships last weekend for the Niobrara County High School girls basketball team. The Lady Tigers opened the tournament against perennial powerhouse Burlington Thursday morning.

LUSK - Rawhide Gymnastics has once again qualified members of their competition program for the Wyoming State Gymnastics competition to be held in March. The competitive program has continued to grow and this year the team qualified 12 gymnasts between the Bronze and Silver Xcel Programs.

TORRINGTON - Niobrara County High School had the first game of the 1A East Regional tournament with a 9 a.m. Thursday morning tipoff. Midwest was the opponent at Eastern Wyoming College and the Tigers made an early statement. Ryan Youngquist buried three pointers moments apart and the rout was on. With a comfortable lead, Brady Swisher and Corbin Matthews found their range from the arc, Matthews with two bombs, and Swisher with two more minutes later sparked the Tigers. Nathan Miller’s 6-0 run led Lusk into a 57-16 lead at the break.

TORRINGTON - The Lady Tiger basketball team opened regionals at Eastern Wyoming College against Kaycee. Niobrara County High School defeated the Lady Bucs early in the season, but Thursday night was a much different game. Things started well as Sarah Krein banked in a triple, followed closely with Kyla Lyons splashing a pair from distance. A 9-1 lead dissolved by the time the quarter ended and the Lady Tigers were in for a long, grueling battle. Jaci Vetter’s jumper was followed by the free toss and Lusk held a slim five point edge at the break. To say NCHS struggled in many ways during the second half, would possibly be an understatement. Foul trouble was an issue, shot selection was questionable and Kaycee took the lead with just over a minute remaining. Krein knotted the game at 39 with a free throw, but a defensive lapse led to the Lady Bucs taking a three point lead. Marleigh Smith had a good look from the top but just a bit too much, as it bounced off the basket support and down into the hoop. The shot was ruled out of bounds (correctly), and basket waved off. The Lady Tigers were left dismayed by the 42-39 defeat.

CASPER -  Niobrara County High School finished up the season at last weekend’s 2A State Wrestling Championships. It was a difficult event at the Ford Wyoming Center for the four Lusk freshmen, while junior Keen Coffman earned fifth place.

PINE BLUFFS - The first measureable snowfall hit Lusk last week- yet that likely had little to do with Lusk’s dismal showing at the Hornet’s Nest last Friday night. Illness, tired legs and poor shooting hindered Niobrara County High School from the beginning.

PINE BLUFFS - The hosts honored a handful of seniors last Friday night and used the emotion to take an early lead on Niobrara County High School. Kyla Lyons stopped a 10-0 run with a three pointer- yet the Lady Tigers trailed by seven points. Jaci Vetter added a trey but the shorthanded Lusk girls were overmatched in the paint. The Lady Hornets led by just nine at the midpoint.

WRIGHT - Friday’s 2A East Regionals had all three Niobrara County High School Tigers make the podium and qualify for state. Lusk finished in eighth place with 44 team points.

LUSK - With more seniors than starting spots, Tiger head coach Ed Fullmer had to be diplomatic and fortunate with two games at Tiger Gym last weekend. On Friday night against Guernsey-Sunrise Joaquin Cassiano and Charlie Gaukel got starting nods. After a 4-4 beginning, Niobrara County High School went on a 12-0 run. Brady Swisher sank three pointers from opposite corners and the Tigers were off and running.

LUSK: - Niobrara County High School had a pair of home games last weekend as Guernsey-Sunrise tipped off Friday night at Tiger Gym. Emily ZumBrunnen and Marleigh Smith nailed three pointers 90 seconds apart, and the Lady Tigers never trailed. Kyla Lyons had a pair of old-fashioned three point plays, and added one from long distance as Lusk raced out to a 21 point lead after one. By halftime it had been expanded to 30 points- mostly due to the visitors nine turnovers.

LUSK - It’s an old adage in sports that you can’t give a good team a sizeable lead, and Friday’s game against Lingle-Fort Laramie was no different. Despite Emily ZumBrunnen’s opening three pointer, the Niobrara County High School Lady Tigers fell into an early hole. The visitors went on a 12-3 run after that, and continued to push the pace. With seven turnovers in the second period, NCHS was down 20 before ZumBrunnen knocked down another trey. A late basket from Sarah Krein helped close the gap at the break.

NEWCASTLE - On Saturday morning the Lady Tiger wrestlers went north and came home with their best showing of the season. Niobrara County High School scored 26 team points to place 15th out of 19 schools entered.

MITCHELL, NEBRASKA -  Last week multiple area media outlets had the Niobrara County High School wrestlers in either Wheatland or Belle Fourche, S.D., but instead found their way across the Nebraska state line on Friday.

YODER - Sub zero temperatures accompanied Niobrara County High School on their way to Saturday’s game versus Southeast. After a pair of close losses last weekend, the Tigers took care of business against the Cyclones.
