LUSK – It wouldn’t be a ZumBrunnen Angus sale day without a snow storm, delicious lunch and the much anticipated heifer give away. Now the ZumBrunnen family can add another item, a record-breaking bred heifer sale.
The December 8 annual production sale with heifers, bred heifers, bulls and embryos had a tremendous turnout. Buyers from over 8 states attended or watched via DV Auction video. The other exciting moment that comes at every ZumBrunnen production sale is the drawing of a name for the heifer give away. Any youth at the sale are encouraged to throw their name “in the hat” for the heifer give away. This year’s winner was Helen Olson. Helen is a Niobrara county resident and 4-H youth and was so excited she couldn’t stop smiling. “Sunshine” is now safe and sound in Helen’s barn at home.
As ZumBrunnens stated on their social media page, “To say humbling, would be an understatement. To God be the glory!! The faith in our program from buyers near and far was incredible today! We appreciate everyone who took the time to see what we had to offer.”
ZumBrunnen Angus is a family owned and operated ranch seventeen miles north of Lusk. They have expanded from a commercial cow calf herd to become a premier seed stock producer in Wyoming and the surrounding area. In the last two years they also expanded again to begin offer direct-to-consumer processed beef not only by the carcass but also by the cut. The business is owned and operated by Jason and Shirley ZumBrunnen and Jason’s parents Melvin and Lola ZumBrunnen. Working alongside the family is Jason Gill and his wife Lindsey. Kids count on the ZumBrunnen ranch and Jason and Shirley’s kids Levi, Melody, Gracie and Emily pull their own weight. They utilize herd animals for 4-H projects and could be seen helping with every aspect of the sale from clerking to running numbers to moving animals through the ring.
As this operation continues to grow and expand they maintain their core values of faith, family and good beef. They look forward to the next year of getting to know their buyers and improving the genetics in their herd.
